Mindful Writing Day

As part of this event here is my small stone.

Small stone
Sore tongue remembers too hot chocolate
purple brown and heavy smooth as cream.
Outside, the cherries are thin dark branches against grey cloud
the leaves golden fish shoaling by the kerbs.
Radio voices push in from the kitchen –
she’s Irish, I think; he sounds North Country.
They are song and rhythm, meaning absorbed
by the thick oak of the shut door.
