Pig Crazy

long time back – not brother pig time –
way back mother-mother pig time
was forest………….mountain
pig knows remembers mists silences

here…. now…. noise

brought us here little easy steps
first: fence posts….. scratch as good as oaks
herd boy walks with us
step easy to the mountain then
mists…… silences……………….. step easy

one more step further from the forest
small field …………..hemmed-up grass
mean square of mud …………..piddly small pen
no mists no more ………………..less silences

now………. shed
he feed us machine
hang a hundred suns on black ropes
to warm our backs all same …..same
crazy in here
weaners crying …….sows scream

this shout in this tin space
come louder louder
tin space echo in pig’s head
crazy shouting
all this reds my eye
rolls my red eye
feet tattoo………….. noise in every muscle

he keeps away …….dare not step into the sound
that is pig
mad noise trapped in tin
growing bigger in the tin……..pig crazy ……………

crazy in the blood….. crazy in the meat
he eat the crazy
then in his brain he know
too late
no more mists
no silences
